After 10 years in Cambridge, MERSI, a global leader in ocular surgery and research, has relocated and expanded into their new home in Waltham. The new state of the art medical center is a huge expansion for MERSI; providing 50% more exam rooms, enhanced diagnostic testing capabilities, and more than double the number of infusion chairs. Thoughtful and thorough coordination allowed JDL to perform a full MEP upgrade with zero disruption to the surgical facility in the tenant space below. Some of the notable features of the build include an ophthalmic lighting control panel; designed to dim the exam room lighting when the surgeon picks up his or her medical devices. A dense new layout demanded over 15 new mechanical units and a specialized plumbing system to support the unique use of the space. Eight slabs of quartz were used to craft the countertops in the space where over 40 rooms received custom millwork elements. Custom cherry veneers, art-glass panels, luxury wall coverings, and designer tiles decorate the walls and provide a high-end look and feel. The JDL team completed the project in just 12 weeks, allowing MERSI to relocate their operations over one weekend. Doctors were able to continue surgery the next week without batting an eye.
