At JDL Corporate Interiors, Inc., we thrive on delivering high-quality projects with tight deadlines, and this summer, we proved once again why we’re the experts in fast-track construction. MIT entrusted us with the buildout of their new Electrical Engineering and Computer Science (EECS) lab on the 6th floor of 50 Vassar Street in Cambridge, and we delivered the project ahead of schedule—shaving 4 weeks off the original 11-week plan. Here’s how we did it:

1. Strategic Use of Double Shifts

   To keep the project moving forward without downtime, we deployed double shifts, ensuring continuous workday coverage. This strategy minimized gaps in productivity and helped us stay ahead of potential delays, keeping the project running smoothly around the clock.

2. Expedited Material Orders

   We worked closely with our vendors to expedite material deliveries, coordinating early procurement efforts and leveraging our relationships to fast-track critical materials. This proactive approach ensured we had what we needed, when we needed it, preventing any material shortages from causing delays.

3. Diligent Coordination with Subcontractors 

   Aligning multiple trades on-site can be a challenge, but we made it a priority to manage close coordination with our subcontractors. We meticulously planned and scheduled activities to ensure that trades worked in harmony, avoiding bottlenecks and ensuring smooth transitions from one phase to the next.

4.  Proactive Communication with Inspectors

   To ensure a seamless project closeout, we engaged proactively with local inspectors from the start. By keeping them updated and aligned with our schedule, we were able to expedite the inspection process and achieve timely approvals, allowing us to meet the tight deadline.

Thanks to these strategies and the dedication of our team, the EECS lab was completed in just 7 weeks—allowing MIT’s classes to start on time for the fall semester.
