JDL has partnered with Northeastern University to transform the 5th and 6th floors of the Christian Science Tower, located in the Back Bay of Boston. The project includes the fit out of two floors and the construction of two specialized computational lab spaces. The build out provides the university with space for students to learn and develop cutting edge network technologies.

This project is predominantly powered by a team of accomplished women collaborating alongside SAAM Architecture. With the exceptional guidance of our Project Manager, Kelly Blair and our Assistant Project Manager, Juliet Truesdale, we eagerly anticipate unveiling the project’s ultimate fruition.

Northeastern’s biggest requirement is that the building must be LEED Certified. LEED stands for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design. It’s a globally recognized certification program and rating system developed by the United States Green Building Council (USGBC). LEED provides a framework for designing, constructing, operating, and maintaining buildings and communities with a strong focus on sustainability and environmental responsibility.

The LEED certification process encourages the adoption of sustainable practices and strategies in various aspects of construction and building operation. These aspects include site selection, water efficiency, energy usage, materials selection, indoor environmental quality, and innovation in design. It’s a way for the construction and real estate industries to promote sustainability and responsible building practices.

Currently, we find ourselves engaged in the project’s demolition phase, actively recycling the carpet material. Our commitment to LEED certification drives us to transform every aspect of construction we possibly can into a sustainable journey. In the photo below, our demo sub carefully palletizes recycled carpets, breathing new life into materials and echoing our dedication to a greener future.

Throughout the construction process, we aspire to showcase the substantial impact that LEED principles can have on our carbon footprint. We also aim to inspire others by demonstrating how even adopting a few of these practices can catalyze a significant positive change within your own construction projects.
