The objective of the JDL Excel Co-op Program is to introduce students to various roles within the organization. In this role, students gain knowledge of and assist in daily activities in the Project Management Department, Estimating Department & Field Operations. It is important to us that we create a welcoming environment for these students to grow their skillsets to take into their future career as well as their everyday life.

JDL partnered with Wentworth Institute of Technology to find our incredible student candidate, Daylee. We sat down with her to discuss why she decided to get into construction, her experience so far, and her decision to do her Co-Op with JDL.

Tell us a little about your background?

I am from Salem NH, and I am currently a Senior at Wentworth Institute of Technology where I initially was set to major in Architecture, but recently transferred to construction management. Outside of work and school I love to workout!

Why did you choose JDL? What are you looking forward to most with this internship?

I chose JDL for my first Co-op because I like the fact that they are a smaller sized company. It feels very inclusive here and everyone collaborates well with each other. I am excited to work in the office and learn more about Project Management. I also am looking forward to being on site and getting to see the development of the project I am on from beginning to the end!

Is there a specific project you are excited to work on?

I am excited to work on the BitSight project at the Prudential Center. It is a 32,000 SF full demo and fit out project. It will include multiple large conference rooms, an amenities center, café’s, game area, open work areas, office spaces and more.

What are your goals for the future?

My goals for the future are to get my masters in project management and hopefully work as an Assistant Project Manager after I graduate. I do like seeing the process of development in a space, so I hope to be able to be on site just as much as I am in the office.
